New Research Will Study Scotland's Games Industry

A new research project will soon be launched to study and document the number of game companies operating in Scotland.

The nation is well-known for a number of companies developing games including the developers of Grand Theft Auto, Rockstar North, and Minecraft console creator 4J Studios, and the team wants to set up a clear map of the sector in Scotland.

The research is led by Scottish Games Network, a team that previously secured an undisclosed grant from Connected Innovators.

They want to study every company designing, publishing, distributing, and teaching in the games industry in Scotland, plus collect some insight into the freelancers operating in the area.

The results will be shared in Q1 2021, and the document will be open-sourced.
