Hi Elliott, This is a great breakdown and very generous in sharing your process and insights, you came a long way from the vending machine days!
Are you planning on releasing the UE4 project to the public? Or only builds? I'd love to play around with it in the editor if possible!
Night in the Woods recently got a new trailer, which perfectly captures the incredible weird style of the game and shows some of the things you’d be able to do in this Unity game. So far it looks stunning.
In this video game you play as a cat, which explores the Possum Springs – a tiny town inhabited by anthropomorphic animals. You have to talk to various inhabitants, check out the sights, touch various stuff and so on. Slowly you’re going to see the storyline and find some of the peculiar things about this crazy place.
Night in the Woods has a very interesting visual style. It’s all very grim, there’s a lot of contrast and nice animations, the world is very detailed and has some nice warm autumn lighting. The project also features some nice melancholic atmosphere.
The game is created by Alec Holowka – one of the important figures in the modern indie movement. He collaborated with Scott Benson on this project. Together they form a studio called Infinite Fall. The game is published by Finji, which released a number of hits, including Canabalt, Overland and Hundreds. The composer of this game is Alec Holowka himself. He managed to create some astonishing rock soundtrack for this project.
Night in the Woods was funded through Kickstarter. The developers got over $200 000, which was four times more than they originally asked for.
So far Night in the Woods looks like an absolute winner. Can’t wait to play it.
