Nvidia Acquires Arm Holdings

Rumors were true after all.

Nvidia announced they decided to buy Arm Holdings from SoftBank for $40 billion. The agreement includes $21.5 billion in Nvidia stock, $12 billion in cash, and $2 billion payable at signing.

Nvidia wants to mix its expertise in artificial intelligence and Arm’s vast computing ecosystem by uniting Arm's 6,000 employees and Nvidia's 13,000.

The company plans to expand Arm’s presence in the U.K. by launching a world-class AI research and education center there. They also want to build an Arm/Nvidia-powered AI supercomputer for research. What is more, Nvidia noted that they are going to continue the open-licensing policy of Arm with users.

"Arm’s business model is brilliant. We will maintain its open-licensing model and customer neutrality, serving customers in any industry, across the world, and further expand Arm’s IP licensing portfolio with NVIDIA’s world-leading GPU and AI technology," Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang said.
