I am continuing development on WorldKit as a solo endeavor now. Progress is a bit slower as I've had to take a more moderate approach to development hours. I took a short break following the failure of the commercial launch, and now I have started up again, but I've gone from 90 hour work weeks to around 40 or 50 hour work weeks. Underworld Ascendant and System Shock 3 are now developed with the help of legendary game designer behind Deus Ex and Epic Mickey, Warren Spector.
University of Texas at Austin has lost its employee when well-known designer left the academia to return to game development. His new job is a studio director at OtherSide, where Underworld Ascendant and System Shock 3 are in production.
I’ve loved working with students as Director of the Denius-Sams Gaming Academy in the University of Texas’ Moody College of Communication. But when the opportunity to have a bigger role in bringing Underworld Ascendant to life, as well as playing in the System Shock universe once again, helping to bring these games to a 21st century audience, I just couldn’t say no. Working on System Shock was one of the most fulfilling things I’ve done in my career and it’s hard to describe how much I’m looking forward to sharing with players what SHODAN has been up to since the last game was released.
The history between OtherSide Entertainment and Warren Spector goes back in the days, when Spector and OtherSide’s founder Paul Neurath worked on Thief: the Dark Project and the original System Shock.
