Preview: ShadeIt 3.0 for Maya

Romain Chauliac shared a preview of his new Script for Maya he’s working on. It will be available soon on his website.

ShadeIt will allow to directly create Materials in Maya in one click, then edit it quickly. You won’t need UVs and there’s a library of shaders to help you get started. The tool will let you change parameters to get variation — you can even add high-quality scratches.

Again, it works without UVs and with infinite resolution texture. You can join the artist’s Discord to learn more.

The artist noted that there is still a lot of work, so we’ll have to wait. In the meantime, discuss the idea in the comments.

Dirt & Scratches Pack by Emil Skriver is a set of high-quality 4K 16-bit textures. In 3D software, the textures are very powerful when used as material masks or as gloss, normal/bump or metallic variation. In that way, the textures will add definition to your materials that react in a realistic way.

How does the material know how to position itself on the mesh without UV’s?


Triplanar Mapping / Blended Box Mapping will give you that result. + Curvature nodes for edge scratches.
