Ryota Suzuki is in Charge of Final Fantasy XVI's Combat System

Square Enix revealed the names of the development team on Final Fantasy XVI.

On Thursday, during Sony's State of Play event, Square Enix unveiled a three-minute trailer for Final Fantasy XVI, which revealed more details about the war in Valisthea, the fictional world of the game.

In the video, the developers showed gameplay footage and demonstrated combat against creatures from the Final Fantasy series including Odin, Bahamut, and Ifrit. The studio also shared that the game is currently in the polish stage of development and will be released sometime in the summer of 2023.

Shortly after the event, Square Enix posted a tweet announcing the development team that's working on the project. It turns out that the combat director on the game is Ryota Suzuki who previously worked at Capcom and was a designer on Dragon's Dogma, Devil May Cry 5, and Marvel vs. Capcom 2.

The fact that Square Enix was working on a AAA action game with Suzuki as a battle director was rumored as early as the summer of 2020, although at the time it wasn't known that this would be Final Fantasy XVI.

The development team list also reveals FFXVI's game director, Hiroshi Takai. He's also known as the director of The Last Remnant.

Other leadership positions include employees who have already been associated with the Final Fantasy franchise, contributing to such titles as FFV, FFXII, and FFXIV Online.
