Sega Expressed Its Desire to Adapt Atlus Games for TV and Movies

The company is looking to create live-action adaptations of Persona and other Altus games for film and TV.

Sega has recently revealed its intention to expand further into film and TV and expressed its desire to work on film adaptations of games created by Atlus, the studio known for the RPG series Shin Megami Tensei, Persona, Etryan Odyssey, and Catherine.

The publisher spoke about its plans in a recent interview with IGN. Producer Toru Nakahara, who previously worked on the Sonic films, as well as the upcoming animated series Sonic Prime, said that Sega and Altus have already started working on these projects and there are plans for both feature films and TV series.

"Stories like those from the Persona franchise really resonate with our fans and we see an opportunity to expand the lore like no one has seen – or played – before," he said. "Together, Sega and Atlus, are working to bring these stories and worlds to life through new mediums and for new audiences."

The producer, however, hasn't disclosed whether Sega is currently exploring the opportunities to work with any studio or a producer to create those film and TV adaptations. Apparently, even if the company is negotiating with potential partners, these projects will not be launched into production soon.

Sega is pretty experienced in creating live-action adaptations – it already released Sonic the Hedgehog and Sonic the Hedgehog 2 movies. In February 2022, the company also revealed that it started the development of a third feature film to the Sonic franchise as well as launched the production of a Sonic TV series spin-off that will feature the character Knuckles the Echidna.
