Skull And Bones Has Seen a Sharp Price Decline In Less Than Three Weeks

It has been markedly dropped by $25 from the original price of $70.

Is there anything more depressing than seeing the price of something you just bought drop soon after? Well, that's what exactly is happening to Ubisoft's Skull and Bones.

After a challenging development process, which included multiple delays and a complete reboot in 2020, the game was finally released on February 16 this year with a price of $70. When asked why the game still charges a full price, despite its live service mechanics, the Co-Founder and CEO of Ubisoft, Yves Guillemot, claimed it to be an AAAA game.

While the game's "record player engagement" numbers have surprised Ubisoft, the journey of this world's first AAAA game seems to be quite challenging. Even with free trials, sales could be better. Currently, retailers have begun to significantly lower the game's price. As of now, Best Buy is selling the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S editions for $44.99, while in the UK, the retailer Hit is pricing them at £49.85.

Although Skull and Bones was initially intended to be Ubisoft's debut $70 game, its multiple delays led to Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora being released last December, becoming the publisher's first game at the higher price point. Its price was also cut down fast, dropping to $49.99/£43.85 just two weeks after it was released.

Ubisoft's decision to set a $70 price point can be interpreted as an attempt to offset the rising costs associated with developing high-quality games. As we move forward, time will truly reveal how this pricing decision impacts the gaming landscape and Ubisoft's position within it.
