80.lv was at Game Developer Conference 2015 and was able to talk to Lim Chian Song about his upcoming indie game, Spacejacked. He goes into detail about his game and who he is.
Hi, I’m Lim Chian Song from Rottenmage which is a Singapore indie company. There are three of us and we are all programmers and partners of Spacejacked. I’m also a gamer so I like to play games such as WOW (World of Warcraft)… I used to be a hardcore raider [laughs]. I’m a Blizzard fanboy so I play a lot of their games.
Spacejacked is a platform-shooter with a tower defense element. You have to protect your spaceship as Dave, the lone engineer, who has to go to different different parts of the spaceship including: the medical bay, robotic labs, and the engine room.
To assist you in the defense of your ship you have different types of turrets such as the laser turret, the gun turret, and the slow turret. You as the player also have your own blaster that you can use to kill alien scum. I just love the chaos of the game. Players will have a sense of panic that comes with protecting multiple parts of the spaceship.
The game came from many inspirations. The base we could say comes from SUPER CRATE BOX which is a platform-shooter. We then decided to add more elements so we added tower defense, and then we added multiple arena. In order to package it all nicely we added space steam which allows the player to use his foot mechanics to jump around and defend the whole ship.
If you like making games, just make them. That way you won’t regret it for the rest of your life. The best feeling on earth is finishing the game and having people like the game.
