Steam Breaks Another All-Time User Record

Steam starts 2022 with setting a concurrent user record of nearly 28 million players online.

On the last Sunday of the winter holiday, Steam breaks into 2022 with an all-time record: just short of 28 million active users were logged onto the service. That surpasses the previous record of 27 million concurrent users set not so long ago, in November 2021.

The specific number of active users stood at 27,942,036, according to the stats by SteamDB, with somewhere between 7 and 8 million actually being in the game. The top five games the users were playing at the time include Dota 2, PUBG: Battlegrounds, Apex Legends, and GTA V, with Counter-Strike: Global Offensive taking the first place.

It's the last week of the holidays, so it makes perfect sense why the record was set at this time when the majority is still staying at home before going back to work along with the pandemic conditions we keep experiencing today.

Steam's record again showed that Valve's PC online store is still the major game distributing service. Although Epic Games Store is getting more noticeable and the popularity of Xbox Game Pass on PC is growing, Steam proves that it is still PC gamers' top pick.
