Streamer Used Brain Activity to Play Elden Ring

A new way to enjoy FromSoftware's game.

We've seen many unconventional ways people play games: with drums, guitars, and bananas. But streamer with a degree in Psychology Perrikaryal managed to surprise the internet with her innovative solution: she plays Elden Ring using her brain.

Perrikaryal wears an electroencephalogram (EEG) device to detect the difference between normal and "focused" states of brain activity and respond by attacking or healing in the game. So far, the EEG works with these two actions and doesn't let her walk without a controller, but who knows, maybe it will become a possibility soon.

The streamer explained that to make the character attack, she imagines pushing forward something heavy and for healing – something falling on top of her face, like she is pulling something toward herself.

It sounds pretty easy, but Perrikaryal says it takes hours to train the device and make it work properly. At the same time, you should be really still, otherwise, there will be too much noise.

"It's not necessarily a limitation of the device but limitation of how much we know about the brain," she said.
