Subscription Services Will Lead PC and Console Market to a Record Year

That's according to the forecast by the market analysis firm DFC Intelligence.

According to new information from DFC Intelligence's 2022 market forecast, the PC and console software market is set to reach new heights this year delivering record results in revenue. The market analysis firm anticipates the market to generate $72 billion in 2022 which will reflect a 5% growth from revenues made in 2021 (which was already a record year).

The analysts state that this growth won't be mainly driven by new releases but by the increasing usage of subscription services from companies like Microsoft, Sony, Nintendo, and others. The firm also notes that a third of total revenues generated by the console gaming business will be coming from Game Pass, Switch Online, and PlayStation Plus.

Despite the firm acknowledging the issue of hardware shortage and difficult comparisons against the spikes in results during the pandemic years of 2020 and 2021, it is still rather optimistic about the console and PC games industry.

"Even as prices rise and the possibility of recession lurks, the core game industry should continue to grow," the firm says.
