Substance Announcements From Adobe MAX

During the keynote of Substance Day at MAX, Sébastien Deguy, vice president 3D & Immersive at Adobe, shared some exciting news about the state of Substance products.

First, users will get the ability to load their favorite Photoshop brushes in Substance Painter. The next Substance Painter release will bring the ability to import and use .ABR brushes in Substance Painter. The team has also announced opacity blending and pressure sensitivity improvements.

What is more, Substance Alchemist is out of beta and this week, users can get the first release of Substance Alchemist that you can use in production. The release features an improved layer stack, the ability to share projects with other users, and an improved delighter.

The team has also revealed that they're working on a new fully automatic tiling filter (a collaboration between Adobe Research and the Substance Alchemist team). It is described as the Content-Aware fill in Photoshop which allows you to remove seams on the edges of your input image automatically. "This new algorithm is faster, doesn’t require any tweaking, and often produce better results than the previous methods," noted Substance by Adobe.

A partnership with Sketchfab has been announced, and users will soon be able to download more than 220K free models made by the Sketchfab community and send them to Substance Painter and Adobe Dimension.
