Telltale Chooses Unity

Telltale Games has finally decided to move away from its old game engine.

Telltale Games has finally decided to move away from its old game engine. A new Variety report states that the studio decided to replace Telltale Tool with Unity.

Batman: Enemy Within this year’s The Walking Dead: The Final Season are said to be the final games to use the old engine.

Telltale’s upcoming The Wolf Among Us: Season Two (coming next year) and the game based on Stranger Things will be the first games for the studio developed using Unity.

The whole thing started with job postings for Unity-experienced engineers spotted on Telltale’s website. You can mix complaints about Telltale Tool John Riccitiello as a Telltale board member to understand the decision.

The move can also be connected with drastic job cuts and a lawsuit sprung by its ex-CEO, according to Variety. A fresh engine and fresh start — is that enough to make the studio great again?
