The First UE4-Based Autonomous Influencer on Instagram

An automated account running on UE4 was posting an image per day attracting new followers.

Matthias Winckelmann, a well-known Freelance Creative Director, Designer and Realtime CG Enthusiast, shared. details on a project he launched a year ago. In May 2020, the artist launched Rachael, the world’s first fully automated autonomous 3D design Influencer on Instagram. The project has been posting to the Instagram account @rachaellic one new image per day. She will continue doing so as long as the computer she is running on is online. Rachael's goal is quite simple: generate "likeable" images representing popular visual languages on Instagram.
"Rachael is not only a technical demonstration of the capabilities of real-time rendering, automation, and AI. Rachael intents to critically examine the consumption of contemporary imagery in the fast-paced social media landscape," wrote Winckelmann. "Due to the continuously growing speed of how images are consumed on Instagram, the more successful (liked) images are the ones displaying an immediate, visually pleasing impression. On the contrary, images embodying deeper meanings or more complex ideas fail to be as popular, since they require more time to be seen and understood."
The developer states that the accoung gained a decent amount of followers without any additional effort. He noted that the original goal was to evaluate and analyze cultural value in the digital art space. Racheal's real-time software was built with Unreal Engine 4 "that generates images using various design methods and algorithmic techniques."
