The International 2022 Will be Held in Singapore

Valve announced that this year's Dota 2’s annual tournament, The International, will take place in Singapore this October.

This year's The International, Dota 2’s annual tournament, will be held in Singapore this October. The annual esports world championship announcement was made during the live broadcast of ESL One Stockholm Major 2022.

This will be the first time since the tournament's inception in 2011 that it will take place in Southeast Asia. Previously, Valve held The International in the US, Canada, China, Germany, and Romania.

The upcoming event was also teased in a tweet, although Valve didn't provide any detailed information on the tournament except the location and the date. All we know so far is that The International 2022, just like last year, will be held in October as the final Major of the season (held in Arlington, Texas) will take place in August.

The tournament is known for its generous rewards. The prize pool for The International has been growing each year since 2011, and last year it hit a peak of $40 million. The sum is largely crowdfunded and dependent on in-game purchases (like sales of Dota 2’s Battle Pass). This year's prize pool is currently unknown, however, it's likely to be bigger than in the previous year.

This year’s The International is expected to play in front of a crowd. The last year's tournament that was held in Bucharest, Romania was a physical event, although ticket sales for the live audience were canceled because of an increase in COVID-19 cases at the time. Prior to that, in 2020, The International was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
