The Real Size of the Gaming Industry

Naavik and BITKRAFT Ventures have collaborated to write an essay about the real size of the gaming industry.

This essay was written collaboratively between Naavik with BITKRAFT Ventures. BITKRAFT is one of gaming’s top venture firms, investing in notable companies like Epic Games, Manticore, and Yield Guild Games. Matt Dion, Jimmy Stone, and Abhimanyu Kumar contributed from Naavik’s side.

The two companies believe that the reported $175 billion that are circulated in the gaming industry is an incomplete underestimation of gaming's potential market size. That's why they developed their own method of measuring the size and scope of the global games industry and discussed it in their recently published essay.

"In order to derive our estimate of the size of the global games industry in 2021, we performed a bottom-up analysis of industry segments involved in producing, monetizing, playing, and/or participating in games," reads the report. "We also utilized our own internal estimates and projections where quality data was more difficult to source. In all cases, we sought to be conservative with our estimates, and have called out potential areas for future change."
