Check out a nice tutorial on generating stylized effects in UE4 by UnrealCG. The guide shows the process of using the smoke texture from the starter pack to create different kinds of effects inside the engine. Take some time to watch the video and start building something cool.  

In this tutorial, I will show you how to make this stylized fire or some effect using the smoke texture from the starter content. This effect uses a technique called alpha erosion to decay the smoke particles.
