Twitch Will Start Selling Games

Streaming giant Twitch will soon become a video game retailer. With Amazon behinds back, will Twitch become a worthy alternative to Steam.

Gamasutra reports, that streaming giant Twitch will start selling games in the next couple of month. The company will enable the sale of games and other in-game content. This new feature will help publishers and developers to distribute their games in a new unusual way. Ubisoft, Hi-Rez Studios, Telltale Games and a dozen of other companies have already jumped on the hype train.

The new distribution system works in a similar way to other services. Developers will get a 70 percent cut of sales revenue. Partnered streamers will receive 5% if a sale is made through their page. Something tells us, this business model will become very lucrative for streamers.

To buy a game you just hit a purple ‘buy now’ button located just below the main streaming window.

When you pay for your title, you’ll be able to download it through the Twitch desktop app or ‘existing publisher-operated services like U-play’. Developers and publishers believe this will mark a huge change in the direction for the popular platform.
