Unigine has revealed version 2.9 of its SDK that features a number of new features.

The update brings C# Component System and C# API, better shadows and improved lighting,  revamped screen-space subsurface scattering, Varjo VR-1 integration, and more.

One of the biggest changes is the addition of C# Components, a modular workflow which will help smooth the transition to UNIGINE for C# devs. “Components are C# objects that can be assigned to any node to create arbitrarily complex logic – without making a mess in the process. Quick changes to the code can be made directly within the editor, with no need to recompile the entire project’s codebase every time,” notes the official post.

The new version also brings improved shadows with soft, fuzzy edges — the so-called penumbra. Combined with better filtering procedures for smoother shadows, the new penumbra effect will help you set up more realistic environments.

You can find the full list of changes on the Unigine website.
