Unity CEO: “Seeing Monument Valley in House of Cards was Awesome”

John Riccitello believes that Francis Underwood from House of Cards is not the kind of character to enjoy the critically acclaimed architectural puzzle. He also loves the show.

A couple of weeks ago we’ve had a chance to talk with John Riccitiello – CEO of Unity Technologies. There was a lot of questions that didn’t get into the final version of the text. One of the funny bits was about the Monument Valley being featured in one of the episodes of the third season of House of Cards show.

We asked, how did John feel seeing such a popular and beautiful Unity game featured in House of Cards. John Riccitiello obviously loved it, since he’s a fan of the show, but he didn’t quite by the whole idea of Underwood enjoying such smart games

Well I was watching that episode and I knew it was a Unity game when it was featured and it was awesome. I was binging on House of Cards. It doesn’t seem like the kind of game he would play though. It seems wrong. He watches porn and plays shooters, so I wasn’t expecting him to play Monument Valley.

Monument Valley is one of the most popular indie mobile games. The game features complicated Escher inspired levels, beautiful visuals and mysterious atmosphere. The project was featured in the third season of the House of Cards. The main character Francis Underwood (Kevin Spacey) enjoyed the game during one of the episodes and even recited an abstract from the review of the game.

The show’s creators actually called the developers of the project and asked the permission to use Monument Valley in House of Cards.
