Valve released a short 7-minute documentary, telling you the brief history of one of the most influential games in the world.

It seems hard to believe, but Counter-Strike was actually born back in 1999. Seems like yesterday for me personally. We used to go to those horrible post-Soviet LAN-clubs and play this project senselessly. Anyway, for old people like me and fans around the world Valve actually made a short documentary, giving a brief look into the production of Counter-Strike.

Minh Lee and Jeff Cliffe didn’t expect their game to be such a huge success. It all started as a small mod, developed by two college kids, who loved FPS. They couldn’t even get the playtesters to help them test the game. However 6 months since the official release of the mod have passed, and Counter-Strike suddenly became a huge hit. They’ve paid a lot of attention to community feedback, adding a whole bunch of features to the game. The community was very creative, submitting almost a hundred maps a week!

No wonder back in 2000, Valve actually bought Counter-Strike and changed the life of this mod forever. Watch this video, seriously, it’s great.
