You Can Spend Money on EA's Skate Right in Alpha Test

Yay, money!

Electronic Arts

What can be better than spending your hard-earned money on a game? If your answer is 'nothing,' you'll enjoy Electronic Arts' update to Skate.

The game is now in a closed alpha, but it would never stop EA from adding a shop to the game. According to a message sent to players, seen by Insider Gaming, there are now microtransactions in the world of skating.

You can use the in-game currency, called San Van Bucks, to buy cosmetics to make your adventures more personalized. According to the developer Full Circle, this was done to make sure players have a "positive experience when purchasing items from the skate store."

"To ensure we achieve these goals at Early Access we have enabled the option to purchase and use virtual currency (San Van Bucks) in our ongoing Closed Alpha playtest," the message says. "Your feedback will be greatly appreciated in providing a great experience at Early Access launch."

As usual with playtests, account progress might be reset during the alpha and will be fully restarted before launch. The money you spend will be returned when the game gets released.

The word 'microtransactions' always leaves a sour taste in players' mouths, but EA's Skate, set to launch this year, will be free, so an in-game shop is an expected occurrence.

Want to see microtransactions ramped up to the maximum? Check out a fun mod for DOOM that makes you pay every time you pick up an item.
