As part of the lighting team on Dead By Daylight, you’ll play a key role in shaping immersive visual atmospheres, working closely with the Art Direction to define the tone, color palette, and mood of each scene. This position emphasizes technical execution over artistic vision, requiring a high level of technical proficiency, while also necessitating thoughtful collaboration with the Tech Art team to ensure performance optimization.
You’ll be involved in managing cinematics, scripted events, fog, and post-process effects to enhance the overall experience. If you’re passionate about turning creative ideas into impactful visual storytelling through meticulous technical application, this role is made for you.
In this role you will:
- Collaborate with technical and art teams to develop the visual style and ensure lighting quality.
- Review game documentation to understand the intended player experience.
- Define workflows and create visual benchmarks.
- Use visual references to align with the project’s artistic direction and suggest improvements for atmosphere and lighting.
- Design lighting systems that support both the visual style and gameplay.
- Develop and maintain efficient lighting pipelines, including the creation of blueprints, material functions, to achieve desired visual effects and performance targets.
- Debug and troubleshoot complex lighting scenarios, identifying and resolving technical issues related to performance, visual artifacts, and engine constraints in Unreal Engine.
What we're looking for:
- 5 years of professional experience designing lighting for games.
- Solid technical knowledge of creating runtime lighting in game engines.
- Strong understanding of art fundamentals and design principles, including composition and color theory.
- A deep understanding of real-time lighting pipelines, rendering processes, and optimization techniques within game engines.
- The ability to debug and optimize complex lighting scenarios in live game services like Dead by Daylight.
- Familiarity with advanced lighting technologies such as Global Illumination and Lumen.
