Job Description

At Wizards of the Coast, we connect people around the world through play and imagination. From our genre-defining games like Magic: The Gathering® and Dungeons & Dragons® to our growing multiverse, we continue to innovate and build new ways to foster friendship and connection. That’s where you come in!

Atomic Arcade is a brand-new video game development studio located in the Raleigh-Durham, North Carolina area led by industry veterans from AAA game and film studios. We are in the process of staffing up our development team with outstanding talent to build our first multi-platform, AAA game - a bold and contemporary new take on the GI JOE Universe starring the legendary character Snake Eyes! This is an excellent opportunity to not only build an outstanding AAA experience but to also help form the core foundations for the studio and team to build upon. We are proud to be part of Wizards of the Coast which is a division of Hasbro.

As a Senior UI Technical Artist at Atomic Arcade, you'll partner with a multi-disciplinary team to optimize player feedback and immersion in HUD and menus, while producing visual and technical designs that enhance the overall player experience. Within a small, collaborative team of developers, you'll craft wireframes, establish UI style with Photoshop or Illustrator comps, explore VFX and animation with After Effects, and primarily, develop in Unreal to prototype, implement, and iterate based on team member feedback.

The ideal candidate for this role holds a fervent passion for video games, particularly in UX/UI, and demonstrates a robust commitment to providing top-notch and innovative player delight.

What You'll Do:

  • Collaborate with a multi-discipline team to understand the needs of specific UXUI features and then work to build effective solutions that will be iterated upon with wireframes and mockups - but most of your time will be in Unreal Engine.
  • Design and implement flows, screens, and components at a high-quality bar with minimal oversight.
  • Collaborate with the Tech Art Lead to establish proper workflows and methodologies to achieve the Art Direction while staying performant.

What You'll Bring:

  • Expertise with Unreal Engine 4 or higher, having shipped multiple PC/Console titles. (Similar engine experience may be considered if the portfolio and technical depth are at a high enough standard to indicate quick ramp-up time in Unreal).
  • Strong experience developing UI prototypes using wireframe tools, Adobe Suite, and Unreal that includes iterating in a collaborative manner with Art Direction, Design, Tech, and Engineering to find the best player experience and technical solutions.
  • Proven experience creating UI for a AAA production from conception through to release.
  • Portfolio showing a wide range of work that demonstrates concept work to engine implementation.
  • Experience with building UI materials & shaders for game engines, or equivalent 3d packages and FX tools; motion design & UI animation.
  • Strong working knowledge of asset optimization and rendering pipelines.
  • Proficiency in UMG and Blueprints.
