It took artist and illustrator Ioannis Papazis hundreds of hours to build an incredibly detailed copy of the Kakariko village from Zelda Ocarina of Time.
The demo looks absolutely amazing. It features glorious lighting, an amazing fully animated Link model, and hundreds of different assets. Ioannis used Maya to build most of the assets for this demo. Almost 80% of his time was spent making the assets. 15% was spent making materials in UDK. Blueprints was the least problematic thing to do.
Overall the whole thing tool about 2 month to produce, with a traditional crunch in the last 2 weeks.
Ioannis Papazis takes Game Art & Animation in Academy of Interactive Entertainment (AIE). Check out the website for additional info. He’s actually very happy with his course of study but he encourages all other aspiring artists to continue working on side projects and always keep improving.
