AMD Market Cap for the First Time Gets Higher Than Intel's

AMD became a larger company than Intel in terms of market capitalization due to the acquisition of Xilinx.

Following 16 long months AMD, eventually, completed the acquisition of the network hardware giant Xilinx becoming a larger company in terms of market capitalization. At the close of trading on February 15, this figure was $199.58 billion. For the first time in AMD's history, it has become a more expensive company than Intel which closed at $197.20 billion.

The company's boost was significantly influenced by the acquisition of Xilinx. The total amount of the transaction exceeded $49 billion, becoming the largest in the semiconductor industry.

However, Intel still remains a major player in the market by other parameters: the company occupies 75% of the x86 processor segment producing chips in its own factories. In addition, it surpasses AMD in annual revenue by 4.5 times.

At the same time, it's worth noting that the current evaluation marks that the market is more optimistic about AMD's growth than Intel's. Experts attribute this not only to the acquisition of Xilinx but also to the launch of  Zen 4 CPUs and RDNA 3 GPUs which are scheduled for the end of 2022.
