Blizzard Hires Jessica Martinez as Its First Head of Culture

Blizzard Entertainment announced that it has hired a former Disney executive Jessica Martinez to the newly-created position of Head of Culture. Her responsibilities will include improving employees' working conditions and dealing with the strategy of internal communications.

Blizzard Entertainment announced it has hired Jessica Martinez to the newly-created position of Vice President, Head of Culture. According to the company's blog post, Martinez, along with the Blizzard leadership team, will be responsible for developing the company's culture and ensuring alignment across all teams.

Prior to Blizzard, Martinez worked for more than 14 years at The Walt Disney Company where she served in various senior roles including director of strategic operations, director of strategic planning, and senior manager of strategic planning and communications, where she was responsible for the conditions of employees and dealing with the strategy of internal communications. She also helped with organizational change after the 21st Century Fox deal.

"When you create a people-first environment where teams feel safe, valued, and work together toward a shared purpose, everyone thrives–the employees, the players, and the business," Martinez said. "Making the values of our connections show up in what we do is how we bring humanity back to business."

Blizzard opened the position of VP/head of culture shortly after being at the center of a work environment scandal. The company was criticized for discrimination and persistent harassing behavior in the workplace which led to several lawsuits and criticism of Activision Blizzard CEO Bobby Kotick who reportedly knew about the situation for years.
