Blizzard's former game designer, David Fried, shared that after Microsoft's deal to purchase Activision Blizzard, the release of Warcraft IV has become more likely.
David Fried, a former game designer at Blizzard who worked on Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos, The Frozen Throne, and World of Warcraft, discussed the possibility of developing a new game in the Warcraft franchise on his YouTube channel.
The game designer shared that after the deal of Microsoft acquiring Activision Blizzard is complete, the classic Blizzard franchises can get more studio's attention. According to Fried, the developers in the company including the studio's veteran Samwise Didier who currently holds the position of art director at Blizzard Entertainment are highly interested in developing Warcraft IV.
"I think Warcraft IV now becomes a distinct possibility because there are people at Blizzard who are still there, who are foundational to it," commented Fried, "Chief among them, Samwise Didier, who I am 90% sure ... would love to do a Warcraft IV. And now ... they may get the chance to lead that."

Fried also admitted that if Didier had offered him to work on the game, he would certainly have agreed. Following the idea that Warcraft IV may be developed in the future, the game designer fantasized that in theory, the studio could even involve Chris Metzen, the game designer and creative director of the Warcraft series. According to Fried, games that can also be expected in the future include the new parts of the Starcraft and Diablo franchises, as many leading developers still consider them Blizzard's key titles.
At the end of January 2022, Blizzard announced that it was working on a survival game in a new universe, and it has been created for more than four years. Samwise Didier is also engaged in it, as in all previous projects, acting as a leading art director.
