If you've noticed AI-powered summaries on top of the page in usual search results, it's because Google has redesigned its search engine and begun rolling out AI Overviews, a feature powered by Gemini, presenting AI-generated answers and summaries to users' queries.
"Sometimes you want a quick answer, but you don't have time to piece together all the information you need. Search will do the work for you with AI Overviews", says Google in the official blog post. The issue with AI Overviews, however, is not only that tech companies often infringe the copyrights by taking and reproducing various materials without permission for AI training, but that these summaries will significantly reduce the number of users who actually click to read primary sources, and most importantly, they tend to provide incorrect and even dangerous, life-threatening results.

While not all searches will get an AI Overview, there's no option to turn this feature off completely, as it's a part of Google search now. Luckily, developer Avram Piltch came up with a Chrome extension called Bye Bye, Google AI, essentially hiding the AI Overviews block from the results page. According to the developer, Bye Bye, Google AI also has the option to turn off discussion blocks, shopping blocks, featured snippets, video blocks, and sponsored links.
Unfortunately, a common problem with similar extensions is that Google can easily block or break them. If the company makes any changes in the code, the JavaScript in the extension may no longer be able to locate the AI Overview blocks to hide them.

As Avram Piltch notes, configuring your browser to send the queries straight to the web tab is a potentially more reliable solution in the long run with the Bye Bye, Google AI extension searching the web tab and then your query.
