Should that worry OpenAI or is that more of a seasonal drop?
According to a new story from The Washington Post, OpenAI's ChatGPT has lost users for the first time since its launch. The report uses data from Similarweb revealing ChatGPT's mobile and desktop traffic worldwide decreased by nearly 10 percent from May to June. Sensor Tower also states OpenAI has been dealing with a steady decrease in iPhone app downloads since its peak in early June.
Earlier this year, ChatGPT set a record attracting the fastest-growing user base in history but it appears the success may have been associated with novelty and not a fundamental long-term interest.
Last week, Meta recently launched Threads, a Twitter rival, which quickly beat the record of ChatGPT attracting more than 70 million users in less than two days, while OpenAI managed to attract 100 million users in two months. The thing here is the initial growth doesn't really matter if a project doesn't find a way to hold users in the long term.
The 10 percent is not a significant concern, of course, and doesn't mean that tech companies should stop investing in chatbots, but it's definitely the right time to think about the future growth and the quality of the product. What's your take on the chatbot's user experience?
