NVIDIA’s DLSS neural upscaling technology can now be used for VR games.
The announced was made on Reddit by NVIDIA Community Marketing Manager Randy Niu and then also added to the DLSS Unreal Engine changelog.
Deep Learning Super Sampling uses the Tensor cores in GeForce RTX graphics cards for a detail-enhancing neural network. DLSS 2.0 allows users to upscale 1080p to 4K in "Performance" mode or 1440p to 4K in "Quality" mode. NVIDIA notes that the result is superior to native 4K rendering.
Three new features in DLSS SDK 2.1:
- New ultra-performance mode for 8K gaming delivering 8K gaming on GeForce RTX 3090 with a new 9x scaling option.
- DLSS is now supported for VR titles.
- Dynamic resolution support.
The technology lets game developers integrate the deep learning-based feature into their game or engine with the help of NVIDIA’s provided SDK.
