Former Apple Chief Designer Jony Ive Presented A $60,000 Turntable

The design was created on a pro bono basis for Linn's anniversary.

You probably haven't heard about a brand called Linn if you're mostly into gamedev stuff but perhaps we have some audiophiles here who know the company has been crafting premium audio equipment for 50 years now. A typical Linn turntable would cost you around $3,500.

The price of the latest Linn Sondek LP12-50 model though would surprise even hardcore sound maniacs: £50,000 (around $64,000) for a turntable that would also require an external amplifier and speakers that could match its quality.

What's the reason for this astronomical price? The LP12-50 model, created for the company's anniversary, was designed in collaboration with LoveFrom, a company founded by former Apple Chief Designer, Jony Ive. The fact is that this is Ive's first device created after leaving Apple.

The base is said to utilize Linn’s all-new Bedrok plinth technology using dense wood, which reduces harmful vibrations for vinyl records. LoveFrom also decided to use aluminum buttons instead of plastic ones, as well as rounded edges that used to be sharp.
Here comes the most interesting part. The collaboration between LoveFrom and Linn was done on a pro bono basis. A representative of LoveFrom reached out directly to the CEO of Linn via LinkedIn. No contracts were signed between the companies – the whole thing is based on love and mutual agreement.

The new turntanle be handcrafted from August to March 2024 – only 250 units to be exact. Looks marvelous and filled with love for sound.
