Xbox Cloud Gaming saw rapid growth during this year which was mainly influenced by the addition of Fortnite to the service.
A new report from Newzoo suggests that the number of Xbox Cloud Gaming lifetime users has increased twice during this year. The main driver of this rapid growth, according to the analytics firm, was the launch of Epic Games' battle royale Fortnite.
In April, prior to Fortnite's launch on Xbox Cloud Gaming, the number of users of the cloud platform was 10 million, and currently, it surpasses 20 million users. The surge started in May when Xbox announced the addition of a free cloud version of Fortnite to the service.
The addition of Fortnite also influenced another cloud gaming service, NVIDIA's GeForce NOW. Newzoo also points out that Epic Games itself was holding marketing campaigns that promoted the game on the cloud services as they allow to access the game on smartphones.
The move seems pretty obvious as the game now can't run on iOS since Apple banned it on App Store for using its own outside payment options, and while there is an option to access the game on Android, this option requires too much friction.
Newzoo expects that the cloud gaming market is set to grow even further in the coming year – the analysts predict that it will reach $8.1 billion in 2025. In comparison, currently, the cloud gaming market's revenues are $2.38 billion.
