Geralt of Rivia's Voice Actor Says Making Ciri The Witcher 4's Protagonist "Makes Sense"

"It just feels like if they don't do that, then I know what The Witcher 5 is going to be about."

Doug Cockle, a renowned Voice Actor and the English voice of CD Projekt's Geralt of Rivia, has recently spoken about CDPR's new Unreal Engine 5-powered The Witcher installment, codenamed Polaris, sharing who, in his opinion, would be the ideal candidate to take on the role of the protagonist in the new game.

Speaking to IGN, Cockle emphasized that he lacks any insider information about the next installment, noting that his knowledge extends only to the understanding that the upcoming installment of The Witcher will not center around Geralt of Rivia.

"Their focus for the game is not going to be Geralt," commented the actor. "They've said that, so I'm really excited to see what their focus is. I have ideas but that's all they are."

One idea Cockle has is for the character who he believes should take on the role of the protagonist in the new The Witcher game. According to the actor, he believes that it would make sense for Ciri to become the next main character, saying that it would be particularly thrilling considering her ability to travel between dimensions described in the original books.

Furthermore, Cockle believes that the inclusion of playable episodes featuring Ciri in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt could be interpreted as CDPR's attempt to pave the way for her to become the protagonist, which, if true, makes the theory more valid.

"The best theory I've heard, because it does make sense, is the theory that they'll focus on Ciri in her adventures in some way, shape, or form," Cockle told in the interview. "Because spoiler alert, in the books, Ciri travels between dimensions and between worlds. It's one of her powers, and she does a little bit of that in the game. So I think it would be a really exciting thing for Witcher 4 to focus on Ciri's adventures in some way.

They kind of set her up for it in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt because you can play as Ciri in certain episodes of the game. So it just feels like if they don't do that, then I know what The Witcher 5's going to be about, because it just makes sense. But I have no idea. I have no idea. I'm excited to find out."

It seems, however, that Cockle's theory is somewhat contradicted by the recent remarks from Sebastian Kalemba, the Director of Polaris, who recently stated that the new The Witcher game aims to be a good starting point for those who haven't had the opportunity to delve into the franchise. Considering this, it seems less likely that Ciri, a character who might not be familiar to new audiences, would be chosen as the main hero in the upcoming installment.
