Google Is Offering Its On-Campus Hotel for $99 a Night to Bring Workers Back to Office

"Imagine no commute to the office in the morning."

Google, like many other companies, has been trying to make its employees come back to the office for a while now and had to tighten its hybrid work policy, according to several reports. But it doesn't seem to be working, so the company allegedly proposed another deal: book a room at an on-campus hotel in Mountain View for just $99 a night. This hotel is situated on a campus in Mountain View, California, and has a range of activities for you to choose from.

“Just imagine no commute to the office in the morning and instead, you could have an extra hour of sleep and less friction,” the document viewed by CNBC reads. “Next, you could walk out of your room and quickly grab a delicious breakfast or get a workout in before work starts.”

The "Summer Special" offer is available until September 30 and should “make it easier for Googlers to transition to the hybrid workplace.”

In case it isn't clear, workers have to pay out of their own pockets for this sweet deal. As you have probably guessed, not everyone was excited about it. “Now I can give some of my pay back to Google,” said one of the employees.

While the price, I assume, is lower for Googlers than everyone else, it is still not cheap. “I would’ve totally done it, had it fit a certain profile: $3k rent all-in, fully-furnished, unlimited meals, paid utilities, plus housekeeping/cleaning every day,” another worker wrote.

At the same time, there are people who admit it could be a nice arrangement. “I pay more and get a lot less in total for my apartment,” one person said. “Though admittedly where I live is much better.”

Interestingly, it was earlier reported that Google was cutting down 1.4 million square feet of its office space in Mountain View and Sunnyvale. I wonder if it's connected to the company's layoffs and employees refusing to stay in the office.
