Netflix Released Record-High 1,026 Original Episodes in Q3 2022

That's over five times more than any of its rivals did.

Netflix has set a new record in the number of original episodes it released during a single quarter – according to data from Wall Street firm MoffettNathanson (via Variety), 1,026 episodes were released on the streaming service in the third quarter of 2022 (from July to September).

In Q3, Netflix premiered 159 original and exclusive shows, surpassing its previous peak of 143 in Q4 2021 with a total of nearly 900 episodes.

In addition to the fact, that Netflix has beaten its own records, the 1,026 figure also reflects the fact that the streaming service released more than five times more episodes than any of its rivals did. In comparison, Amazon Prime Video released 223 episodes during the same period, Hulu released 194 episodes, Disney+ debuted 140 original episodes, and HBO Max released 114 episodes in Q3, as MoffettNathanson's report states.

The top TV titles Netflix premiered in Q3 include the biographical drama Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story starring Evan Peters and the fantasy drama The Sandman based on Neil Gaiman's comic of the same name. During this period, the streaming service also released new episodes of Cobra Kai, Locke & Key as well as dropped the final two episodes of Stranger Things 4.

Apparently, by releasing five times as many episodes as its closest competitors, Netflix tries to span as much audience as it can offering a number of shows for a variety of tastes.

Still, quantity isn't everything. For instance, despite releasing much fewer original episodes than Netflix, in the third quarter of 2022, HBO Max premiered The House of Dragons which has shown pretty good ratings – the first season of the Game of Thrones prequel had an average of 29 million viewers per episode across all platforms.
