One More Game Raised $22m to Build Its First Online Strategy Game

The new studio led by industry veterans behind Warcraft, StarCraft, Diablo, and Guild Wars secured $22 million to build its debut title – an online strategy game that is said to give birth to a new game genre.

One More Game, a studio built by industry veterans behind Warcraft, StarCraft, Diablo, and Guild Wars, announced it has secured $22 million in a Series A funding round led by Lightspeed Venture Partners.

Griffin Gaming Partners and Andreessen Horowitz who also previously led One More Game’s seed funding round joined Lightspeed in this round. Among other participants, there were Animal Capital, Cleo Capital, and several individual investors.

According to the studio, the investment will support the company's mission "to help players have more fun" starting with its debut title, Spellcraft. The funding will go towards developing the new game as well as supporting the market release. Spellcraft will be an online competitive strategy set in a fantasy world that, as the studio hopes, will give birth to a new game genre.

"It's an energizing opportunity to build a game – and a studio – from the ground up, bringing all of the lessons we've learned and the convictions we've come to hold over our many shared years creating games," said co-founder and CEO of One More Game Patrick Wyatt. "We're heartened to have such a distinguished and supportive team of investors who have put their faith in our team, the potential of Spellcraft, and our vision for future titles."

The Seattle-based studio was founded in 2019 by Blizzard veteran Patrick Wyatt who also co-founded ArenaNet known for its Guild of War series and Jamie Winsor who previously worked at Riot Games, the studio best known for League of Legends and Valorant. Since One More Game's formation, the developers have been working on the studio's first title applying its innovative Alpha-driven development approach to rapidly iterate on gameplay with feedback from real players.
