Jeff Kaplan, the director of Overwatch, revealed he is leaving Blizzard Entertainment after nearly 20 years.

"I am leaving Blizzard Entertainment after 19 amazing years," wrote Kaplan. "It was truly the honor of a lifetime to have the opportunity to create worlds and heroes for such a passionate audience. I want to express my deep appreciation to everyone at Blizzard who supported our games, our game teams and our players. But I want to say a special thanks to the wonderful game developers that shared in the journey of creation with me."

The announcement also reveals that the development on Overwatch 2 will continue with game developer Aaron Keller acting as the new director on the sequel. Keller previously contributed to the development of World of Warcraft.

Kaplan originally joined Blizzard in 2002 as a designer on World of Warcraft, working on quests for the game. Then, he was busy developing Titan, a first-person shooter game that got canceled in 2014. Then, he continued his work developing a team-based shooter now known as Overwatch.
