The developers behind the architectural rendering software rolled out a major update, significantly improving the speed and quality of ray-traced renders, introducing a new landscape tiling system, and adding over 300 new assets to the accompanying library.
Lumion is one of the most popular renderers in architectural visualization work since it's designed to provide architects with the most straightforward and user-friendly way to create realistic projects than standard rendering software mostly aimed at digital artists.
The latest update extends the capabilities of Lumion's ray tracing engine, expanding it to work seamlessly with over 2000 nature items, and promising more than 5x faster video rendering times for similar quality, whether you're designing a landscape, working on a building, or decorating an interior scene:

Another key change is a real-time denoiser in photo and movie mode, enabling you to see near-instant previews of your renderings, giving real-time feedback for faster design decisions:
The developers also highlight the ability to use the ray tracing effect to enhance tiny glass details or colored glass surfaces, creating intriguing patterns with realistic reflections and shadows.
There are some new and updated glass properties empowering you to go even further in refining details. Lumion 2024.0 features thickness slider to define the thickness of the surface, absorption slider for the amount of light absorbed, and distortion slider to adjust the index of refraction.

This update also makes it easy to enhance the appearance of translucent materials with subsurface scattering, now compatible with ray tracing. Capture the nuanced interplay of light on these surfaces with stunning accuracy, adding a heightened sense of depth and realism, with every characteristic easily revealed.

Lastly, Lumion 2024.0 comes with a landscape tiling toggle in the material editor to eliminate visible tile outlines and enhance realism, perfect for sculpting terrains on a large scale:
Other minor features include workflow improvements, introducing a new vertical sidebar freeing up the space for editing and previewing your scenes, additional camera control, and file import options such as glTF format and batch file importing support. New project templates and presets offer more creative options for you to explore.
There are also about 300 new assets in the Lumion library, including 100 new fine-detail nature objects, 45 static characters, and 25 parallax interiors for buildings.
