Sega Workers Vote Yes To Form A Multi-Department Video Game Union In The US

The AEGIS-CWA union is now the largest multi-department video game union representing different disciplines.

Multiple departments representing Sega of America voted to form a union. 91 employees out of a total number of 212 eligible employees voted yes, meaning that the Allied Employees Guild Improving SEGA (aka AEGIS-CWA) will be the fifth video game union in the United States and its largest multi-department video game union.

"We are overjoyed to celebrate our union election win as members of AEGIS-CWA," a translator for Sega Ángel Gómez said in a statement. "Now, through our union, we’ll be able to protect the parts of our jobs we love, and strengthen the benefits, pay, and job stability available to all workers."

The AEGIS-CWA union drive was originally announced in April but it took Sega of America’s Burbank and Irvine, California, divisions a year to make it happen.

Apart from the AEGIS-CWA union, there are four others: Raven Software, Blizzard Albany, ZeniMax, and VR / AR game developer Tender Claws. AEGIS-CWA will represent workers from different departments including brand marketing, games as a service, localization, marketing services, product development operations, product development, sales, quality assurance teams, and more. Thanks to that AEGIS-CWA is now the largest multi-discipline video game union in the United States.

What makes AEGIS-CWA and Tender Claws Human Union different is that it represents a broad range of disciplines. Previously, video game unions mostly represented QA, but AEGIS-CWA and Tender Claws Human Union were formed to make sure different departments get to voice their interests.
