Sonic The Hedgehog Co-Creator Leaves Square Enix

A legendary developer behind the Sonic series and other games has left the company.

Co-creator of Sonic The Hedgehog Yuji Naka announced he left Square Enix after the release of Balan Wonderworld.

"I retired from Square Enix at the end of April 2021," wrote the developer on Twitter. "I can't talk about the reason now, but I hope I can talk about it when the time comes. As for future activities, I'm 55 years old, so I may retire."

Naka's last project at the company was the adventure title Balan Wonderworld released back in March.

He was previously the head of Sonic Team and worked as the lead programmer on the original Sonic The Hedgehog. What is more, he contributed to the development of Nights into Dreams, Burning Rangers, and Phantasy Star Online.
