Threads Now Has Over 100M Users

It took Meta less than a week to reach this impressive milestone.

Instagram’s new Threads app has reportedly attracted more than 100 million users in less than a week. To give you a comparison, ChatGPT has reached the same milestone in two months. The number can be found in the Instagram app, which shows the size of the Threads user base.

In the first two hours, it had 5 million and now it's close to 100 million. One of the reasons for such a success is definitely the registration flow which allows users to easily transfer their data from Instagram to Threads. CEO Mark Zuckerberg said on Friday the launch has been way beyond their expectations.

While everyone keeps calling it the rival of Twitter, Meta says they are not trying to replace Twitter, according to Instagram head Adam Mosseri. Twitter is going for politics and heated discussions, but it appears that the new Instagram app is trying to be some kind of conversation-based platform where people can just share personal news and post photos and videos.

The main question right now is whether Meta can retain such a fast-growing audience. A recent report from The Wall Street Journal states Twitter has been giving a number of around 535 million monetizable monthly active users, while CloudFlare CEO Matthew Prince says their traffic is "tanking."
