3D Metasites by 80.lv Community: Tribal Village

Check out a new experience added to the 80 Level's cloud streaming service.

This week, we would like to highlight this stunning experience by talented 3d Environment artist, Sreenivasa Reddy P. Explore this mysterious forest, where towering tribal houses rise alongside a winding river within a sheltered mountain valley.

Tribal Village

Created by Sreenivasa Reddy P.

Tribal Village was part of Sreenivasa’s online diploma course in game environment design at Think Tank Centre and was inspired by the concept art of 女巫Alysa的家, but recreated in 3D. In envisioning this scene, the artist conceived a secluded mountain valley in the Nordic region, with a towering tribal village standing amidst a winding river.

The aim was to create an environment conducive to utilizing Zbrush, Gaea, and Marvelous Designer for various elements within the scene. The project evolved into a valuable opportunity to experiment with lighting, resulting in two distinct scenarios: summer and overcast. The concept art additionally facilitated the modular design of the scene, enabling the artist to delve into advanced Unreal shader techniques. This included employing the second UV channel for color variation through packed RGB masks and altering the color and design of the shield using custom primitive data without creating separate instances.

“I utilized Zbrush to craft the edge damages of the planks, and Substance Designer played a role in incorporating fine details such as wood grain, knots, and splinters, all of which I could adjust using exposed parameters. Additionally, I employed SpeedTree to generate custom LODs and implement wind effects for the foliage, subsequently importing them into Unreal Engine.”, stated the artist.

The software employed for this environment included Maya, Substance Designer, Substance Painter, SpeedTree, Unreal Engine, ZBrush, Marvelous Designer, and Gaea. The artist utilized William Faucher’s Easyfog blueprint for the fog, the Landscape material shader from Unreal Sensei, and Tiedtke’s blueprint for the roped fence. Megascans were used for the foliage (excluding ferns and trees), ground textures, and rocks. The Unreal Engine's water system was used for the river.
