Meet Simulon, a WIP application aiming to make cinematic-quality VFX accessible to all creators.
UPD: Divesh Naidoo shared one more demo showcasing Simulon's capability to handle high-fidelity assets, adding a detailed human scan from 3D Scan Store to real-life footage. As stated by the developer, the goal of the new demo was to highlight the difference between what you see in real-time AR versus the precision of offline cloud rendering.
"Our workflow was designed to closely align the visuals in real-time AR with our offline cloud renders. The video demonstrates this, transitioning from the AR preview to the final cloud render," commented Divesh. "This preview lets creators foresee the final VFX shot, reducing guesswork in lighting and composition."
Original article: Developer and AR/VR enthusiast Divesh Naidoo has recently shared a new mind-blowing demo showcasing the capabilities of Simulon, an upcoming application aiming to make cinematic-quality VFX accessible to all creators.
Leveraging Simulon in combination with KeenTools' GeoTracker plug-in, which was used to track lighting data, the creator managed to add Loïc Norgeot's realistic-looking Mosquito in Amber 3D model into real-life footage and create the illusion that the amber reflects and refracts the light from a phone's flashlight in a lifelike manner. According to Divesh, the goal of the project was to showcase the complex material and lighting interactions that are possible with Simulon.
The result was so incredible that many actually thought the video was fake, believing that there was a real object in the original shot. To clarify, the developer also revealed the behind-the-scenes of the project, showcasing the exact model used and presenting the original video recording. For those unaware, Simulon has been in development for over 3.5 years, with the goal being to make cinematic-quality VFX accessible to creators from diverse backgrounds. As noted in one of the earlier Twitter posts, the application is soon entering Closed Beta, with the developers planning to provide a select group of creators and studios with early access to Simulon to help refine its final touches.
The final version of the software is scheduled for an early 2024 release. Following the launch, the team plans to compile a series of tutorials and tips to help users maximize Simulon's potential. "In an industry that never stands still, neither will Simulon. Stay tuned for regular updates on our exciting R&D progress across social media," commented the developers.
