A Detailed Tutorial on Photogrammetry Setup for Indoor Prop Scanning

Ubisoft Reflections' Expert Material Artist Grzegorz Baran released a detailed 1-hour-long YouTube tutorial on photogrammetry.

The tutorial is a true gem for anyone who is learning the art of 3D prop scanning for photogrammetry as it covers the very basics of turntable creation. The step-by-step guide took the artist over a year of filming and about two months of editing to assemble. In the video, Grzegorz explains why certain things are being used instead of just showing the setup. You will learn a lot about camera settings, choosing a proper background and adjusting the lighting to get the best results.

The artist talks about the inverse square rule for the light falloff, explains Depth of Field dependencies, gives a complete list of photogrammetry setup for 3D prop scanning, and shares tips on how to assemble everything together to start the scanning process. You will learn the ABCs of both the artistry and the technicalities behind indoor 3D prop scanning.

In the upcoming tutorial, Grzegorz is going to cover usage of props in atlas textures as soon as the Marmoset Tool 4 update is released.
