Adobe Teases Object-Aware AI Image Editing Engine Stardust

Move, remove, and replace objects in one click.

Photo editing is about to become what everyone has wanted it to be since Photoshop turned into a verb. Adobe has teased Project Stardust – its object-aware AI engine that can easily edit images without dealing with layers.

The tool identifies objects in photos, all you need is to decide what to do with them: delete, move, or replace them with something else thanks to its generative text-to-image feature. As shown in the video above, it's as easy as clicking on the object in question, dragging it around without breaking the background, or just removing it: the shadow will go with it.

Stardust is great for your vacation photos with all those pesky tourists walking around. Just tell it to "remove distractors", and now you're alone wherever you wish without handpicking every person – the AI understands what to do.

Overall, the engine provides some familiar tools, like object selection and object deletion in Photoshop, as well as Adobe's generative AI model Firefly, plus some intriguing new features.

The company hasn't shared the release date for Project Stardust but promised to talk more about its products at MAX on October 10-12.
