An iPhone Survives a 16,000ft Drop After Falling From an Airplane

"Still had half a battery."

In case you missed it, an emergency incident occurred last week involving one of Alaska Airlines' planes, which had to perform an emergency landing in Portland, Oregon, after a section on the outer part of the aircraft unexpectedly fell off.

Described as "a really loud bang" by the unfortunate passengers, the resulting hole in the aircraft led to a rapid loss of pressure and even caused several items, including plane parts, a T-shirt, and an iPhone, to be pulled out by the wind. Fortunately, the plane safely landed a few minutes later, giving passengers and the crew the scare of a lifetime but thankfully not resulting in any serious injuries.

The story, however, didn't end there, as the aforementioned iPhone was later discovered by a local Game Designer, Sean Bates, who spotted the device lying in the grass on Barnes Road. Astonishingly, the gadget was found not as a mangled piece of scrap metal but nearly intact, with the only visible damage being a broken-off charger plug.

According to Sean, the iPhone was still functioning, unlocked, had half its battery remaining, and was displaying a baggage claim page for Alaska Airlines ASA1282, confirming that the found phone indeed belonged to one of the passengers. Keep in mind that the plane had reached an altitude of 16,000 feet (4,876 meters) during its emergency descent, making the fact that the phone not only survived but was largely unaffected by the fall nothing short of a miracle.

In a later interview with KPTV FOX 12 Oregon, Sean shared more details about the discovery, offering additional insights into the state the device was found in:
