Annapurna to Bring Remedy's Control & Alan Wake to TV & Movie

Annapurna will also fund 50% of Control 2’s development budget.

Finnish developer Remedy Entertainment has announced a strategic partnership with Annapurna Pictures. The latter will fund 50% of the development cost for Control 2 and obtain the movie and TV rights of both the Control and Alan Wake franchises, while Remedy will retain the full IP rights for both franchises.

Annapurna Pictures is an American media company founded in 2011, and it is the parent company of Annapurna Interactive, which develops and publishes video games. Annapurna Pictures will be focusing on "expanding Control and Alan Wake into new entertainment mediums" so that Remedy can prioritize the development of the games. This partnership is seen as an "exciting opportunity" and will bring a greater revenue share for both parties.

"The future of storytelling requires seamlessly integrating gaming, film, and television, and this partnership will allow us to explore new ways of bringing these narratives to life,” said Megan Ellison, Founder and CEO of Annapurna. “By leveraging Remedy’s innovative narratives and immersive worlds, we can push the boundaries of how stories are told and experienced across mediums.”

Tero Virtala, CEO of Remedy Entertainment, commented on the positive impact of the partnership for Control 2 and their strategy for self-publishing. The game progressed to the "production readiness stage" in the second quarter of this year after they acquired full rights from publisher 505 Games. He said:

"This agreement will ensure we can develop Control 2 into the best game possible, allow us to move into self-publishing for selected titles and expand our franchises to other mediums.”

Remedy’s Mikael Kasurinen, Executive Producer on the Control Franchise, unveiled that Control 2 looks "amazing" at this moment while expressing his excitement for the cooperation.
