Bandai Namco Gives in-Game Currency for MMO It Canceled

Well, at least you can have the good stuff until Blue Protocol dies.

The Japanese version of the Blue Protocol MMORPG is coming to an end on January 18, 2025, as announced by Bandai Namco. Unfortunately, other parts of the world won't see it as well because the company has also canceled the Western version, which was supposed to be released in collaboration with Amazon Games.

"We know there has been great anticipation for Blue Protocol since the first announcement of the game. We wanted to deliver an experience that is like stepping into the world of anime, and we have been challenging ourselves to create a world where each and every player can enjoy adventures as the main character of the anime. We have worked hard to prepare for the release; however, we have come to the conclusion that it will not be possible to provide a service that satisfies all of you," Bandai Namco said in a blog post

To apologize and somehow "make it up" to upset fans, the studio will be giving out 5,000 Rose Orbs (in-game currency) every month from September until the end, as reported by PC Gamer. Alas, players won't be able to refund their purchases, but at least they'll get the new battle pass for free and buy stuff with the orbs as their last hurrah.

While Bandai Namco didn't clearly state why it was shutting the game down, it's likely because of the decreasing interest from players. Earlier, the developers revealed that Blue Protocol was underperforming (via Siliconera), and they were trying to find out why. I guess even if they did, Bandai Namco couldn't do anything about it.

I call BS. "it will not be possible to provide a service that satisfies all of you," is a cop-out statement. Don't blame the fans for cancelling the game. What's the REAL reason??

Yeah. All the upset potential fans that can't play it in the west because it was never released are going to feel so much better knowing that in Japan where it flopped, everyone is getting free stuff. Tone deaf much?

I guess to BN if Japan doesn't like it, the rest of the world can go hang. Typical.
